SIX-THIRTY, MOUNT WASHINGTON ROAD, STILL DARK
The skis are on the roof, the boots are in the back, and the road up is exactly the road that sorts vehicles out. Full-time all-wheel drive through an eight-speed automatic with driver-selectable modes, an engine oil cooler and a transmission oil cooler. Multi-link rear suspension on coil springs, 235/55R18 tires, and rain-detecting variable intermittent wipers with heated jets that clear the slush line instead of freezing to it.
At the top, the power liftgate goes up while you are still peeling gloves off. Roll-up cargo cover over whatever you would rather not advertise. Cargo space lights. The boots and the wet bag go in, the cover goes back, and nothing in the cabin smells like a chairlift for the rest of the week.
THE DRIVE BACK DOWN
Dual-zone front automatic climate control, so the person who runs cold and the person who runs hot both stop complaining. Leatherette door trim inserts and carpet front and rear floor mats that take the punishment. Heated washer jets, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and auto LED low and high beams with delay-off for the last unlit kilometres.
Front Assist with forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, Side Assist blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, cruise control with steering assist, and a back-up camera. On a dark, wet descent that is not a spec sheet, it is the reason you arrive relaxed.
THE REST OF THE WEEK
Monday it is a completely ordinary crossover again. Rear bench with a centre armrest, rear cupholders, two seatback storage pockets, rear door bins, and rear map lights. Two 12-volt outlets. Six speakers, two front screens and streaming audio. Chrome grille, chrome side window trim, deep tinted glass, LED brakelights and power heated folding mirrors with turn signal indicators. There is a collapsible spare under the cargo floor rather than a tire kit.
The 2.0L TSI with the start/stop system, regenerative braking and an ECO driving mode is a genuinely good highway engine, and the 60 litre tank means Campbell River to Victoria and most of the way back.
WARRANTY
Volkswagen's factory coverage is four years or 80,000 km. This Tiguan went into service July 9, 2024, so the time portion of its original factory warranty runs from that date, subject to Volkswagen's warranty terms and kilometre limits.
With a 2024 in-service date, there may be substantial factory warranty remaining. We will confirm the exact remaining coverage with you based on the current kilometres. If you want coverage that runs beyond the factory term, extended warranty options are available.
