The first genuinely greasy morning of the season always arrives before anyone has thought about it. All-wheel drive is a sensible thing to have on this coast, and StabiliTrak with traction control may help keep the vehicle settled if the surface turns slick. The high intensity discharge headlamps switch on and off on their own with an automatic delay, and the LED daytime running lamps make you easier to pick out in the grey. On the highway, the Following Distance Indicator shows the gap to the vehicle ahead, which can nudge you into leaving a little more room than you thought you had. Under the cargo floor there's a compact spare on a 16-inch steel wheel with a mechanical jack and tools, rather than a repair kit and a hope — the sort of thing that matters on exactly one evening. The tire pressure monitor includes Tire Fill Alert, which is a genuinely nice touch at the air hose on a cold morning. And if a newer driver is going to be borrowing it, Teen Driver lets you attach a set of vehicle settings to a key fob and gives you a report on how it was actually driven, which tends to make that conversation shorter.
